Vitamin D3
The production of D-3 in the human body is a photochemical reaction that occurs when the skin is exposed to UVB ultraviolet radiation. However, the catalytic action of sunlight varies. Modern lifestyles, prolonged use of sun protection products and environmental factors contribute to the widespread occurrence of vitamin D-3 deficiency, which affects approximately 50% of the world’s population in all nationalities and all ages.
Vitamin D-3 helps significantly in the development and maintenance of bones and bone density. It promotes the adequate absorption of calcium, which also contributes to the health of bones and teeth. Additionally, it participates in healthy cell growth and the maintenance of a normal nervous and immune system.
D-3 is found in a few foods mainly of animal origin, such as salmon, tuna, sardines, mushrooms, egg yolks and “enriched” milk. For those who struggle to reach recommended levels, supplemental vitamin D-3 (with a doctor’s approval) can help boost D-3 levels in the body.
